Fluorite ore is the naturally occurring mineral composed principally of calcium fluoride (CaF₂) in a coarse, mined‐rock/ore form rather than a processed powder.

It typically occurs in veins, hydrothermal deposits or replacement horizons associated with limestone, dolomite or other carbonate rocks.

Industrially, this ore is mined and then processed (crushed, ground, floated, concentrated) to yield higher grade “fluorspar” (flux, acid grade etc).

In many applications the grade of CaF₂ (calcium fluoride) in the ore and the impurity profile determine its suitability for different end‐uses (metallurgical, ceramic, chemical).

ParameterTypical range / notes
CaF₂ content~20-30 % in raw ore feed (varies by deposit)
Density~3.18 g/cm³ (for pure CaF₂ mineral)
Hardness (Mohs)~4
SiO₂ content (gangue)Could be large (50-70 % in raw feed)
Liberation size~75 µm d₈₀ reported in one study
Concentrate grade possibleUp to ~98 % CaF₂ after processing
Melting point (mineral)~1,412 °C
